Adam ToledoMale/AbroadWithin 20 seconds of Officer Stillman getting out of his police car, 13-year-old Adam Toledo had been shot. The clear image of Adam holding his empty hands in the air moments before the gun was fired went viral. Anger turned into protests against the level of force used by the police.

Atatiana JeffersonFemale/AbroadIn October 2019, Atatiana Koquice Jefferson was shot and killed in her own home by an officer with Fort Worth Police. Officer Aaron Dean searched the exterior of her home before approaching her bedroom window. The officer shot into the window, killing Jefferson.

Battle of OrgreaveMiscarriage/UKThe violent confrontation between police and picketing miners at the Orgreave Cokeworks in 1984 produced some of the most iconic images of the decade. None of the 95 arrested were ever successfully prosecuted. In 2016 the government announced there would be no public inquiry.

Grenfell TragedyMiscarriage/UKThe fire which destroyed Grenfell Tower in June 2017 was one of the UK's worst modern disasters. Just before 01:00am, fire broke out in the kitchen of a fourth floor flat at the 23 storey tower block. Within minutes, the fire had spread to all four sides.

Gurdip Singh ChaggarMale/UKGurdip Singh Chaggar was just 18-years-old when he was brutally stabbed to death in Southall, West London on the night of Friday 4 June 1976. This unprovoked murder of a Sikh engineering student, targeted during a night out with friends by a gang of white youths, had an immediate impact.

Sarah ‘Maria’ BurkeFemale/UKSarah Marie Burke was found hanging on 11 November 2016, just 8 days after she had arrived at HMP Drake Hall from Peterborough prison. The jury identified a failure to monitor and assess suicide and self-harm risks at both prisons, and failure in responding to bullying at Drake Hall.
