The death penalty violates the right to life. It is the ultimate cruel, inhuman and degrading punishment. It has no place in a modern criminal justice system. La question de savoir si oui ou non il est moralement acceptable pour l'Etat d'exécuter des personnes, et si oui dans quelles circonstances, a été débattue pendant des siècles.

These are key historical and community events that have been reported to us, or that have been held by 4WardEver, La Campagne pour la justice Mikey Powell, or in conjunction with third parties. En mai 2010 Families and campaigners gathered in Leicester, UK to pay tribute to those that had died in custody.

Les familles Unis & Friends Campaign is a coalition of families and friends of those that have died in the custody of police, prisons and secure psychiatric hospitals. Dans 2006 à propos 200 people turned up to remember and demand justice for those who have been killed or beaten and abused in police custody, in prisons and mental health institutions.

Entre 1969 et 1999 over one thousand people died in police custody in the UK alone, not counting deaths in prison and psychiatric institutions. No one has ever been convicted for any of these deaths. Over the last 30+ years a disproportionate number of these deaths were African-Caribbean men. A similar pattern is also evident worldwide.

The use of restraint on children and young people is on the rise in secure training centres, figures in 2009-2010 revealed. Youth Justice Board (YJB) statistics, placed in the House of Commons library, show that for the three months between April and June 2009 restraint was used 535 times in England’s four secure training centres. A similar pattern is also evident worldwide.
