Women were making around 1,000 calls each month to the Samaritans, according to prison inspectors. A report by the Inspectorate of Prisons has found self-harm was the highest at HMP Foston Hall.
The Ministry of Justice has released the latest statistics on deaths and self-harm in prison in the UK. Six of the deaths were in women’s prisons, three of which were ‘natural cause’ and three await classification.
