The family of Mzee Mohammed are one step closer to finding out what happened on the day the 18-year-old died after being detained by police. The police watchdog the IOPC have confirmed they’ve completed their investigation, meaning an inquest into Mr Mohammed’s death can now go ahead.
They’ve also confirmed that all police officers involved in the investigation were treated as witnesses. Their final report includes details of his journey from Toxteth to Liverpool One, through to when he was detained near a fast food kiosk.
It also includes CCTV footage, bodycam footage and police call logs, along with witness statements from members of the public, police officers and Liverpool One staff.
IOPC Regional Director Amanda Rowe said: “Our thoughts remain with Mzee’s family and friends who I know must still be suffering following their loss.
“We recently shared our findings with his family, Merseyside Police, HM Coroner and some of the other agencies directly involved.
