4WardEver UK

4WardEverUK was launched in 2006 by Tippa Naphtali the cousin of Mikey Powell, who died in the custody of West Midlands police, Birmingham, UK in September 2003. Its purpose is to provide profiles, news, event details, resources and useful information, appeals, and more in relation to deaths in custody and other injustices. 4WardEver is run entirely by a small volunteer team, and funded from voluntary contributions and donations. We support the call for reform within police, penal and mental health institutions in the UK and internationally.

I attended the UFFC rally on Saturday. I give my respect to the family members who got up and spoke about their loved ones who had died, so powerful, so sad. I got up and said a few words regarding my son Lloyd Butler who died in police custody. I personally hold West Midlands Police responsible for assisting our Lloyd’s death and will always strongly hold that view.

However, I aim to work with others in regards to help make changes so that other parents and families don’t have to go through the lifelong pain we are going through.

What is done is done and there is no going back, but we can go forward in strength as one big family. The police and others need to be aware that we work as one because we have all been affected by their fatal errors. Those errors are numerous and have amounted to lives being taken away.

Why do we have to fight the system when our children die in custody or in the care of the state? I just hope we can stand together and make changes.

One thing I must point out. The turnout on Saturday was quite low. Could this be due to people not being aware in time to attend? Thank you to the people that made Saturday possible.

I would just like to say that my sons case has achieved some success in that the police have said they failed my son badly.

      Dear Jan,

Thanks for your comment. In future could you try and keep comments fairly brief and written in normal lower case font (rather than all capitals). This is because our volunteers have to spend time manually retyping the comments and they sometimes will not get published.

      Many thanks
      Zinzi (Volunteer)
