No10 Security refused deaths in custody letter

The United Families and Friends Campaign UFFC, a coalition of families and friends of those who have died in the custody of police, prison and psychiatric hospital officials, organised a procession to Downing Street to give a letter to the Prime Minister. The police refused to let Samantha Rigg-David in Downing Street and they refused to accept it.

Sentence review to slash numbers of women in jail

Ministers plan to slash the number of women sent to prison amid complaints that women behind bars are exposed to increased risks of mental illness, self-harm and even suicide. The Government plans to use the forthcoming sentencing review to reverse the rising numbers of women jailed – often on remand or for “minor” offences such as shoplifting.
