Colin Roach, aged 21 years, died in January 1983 after receiving a fatal gunshot wound in 1983 while in the custody of Stoke Newington police station, London.
“I was actually just down the road when it happened and I was amongst the first people to gather outside the police station” says Zephaniah.
The case of Colin Roach featured in the documentary film ‘INJUSTICE’ Within the film the case was mentioned by Graham Smith who was very involved in the Colin Roach campaign.
A vulnerable prisoner, whose mental health deteriorated while he was isolated in jail before he killed himself, should have been on a 24-hour watch, said a retired prison health boss.
