Ferguson To BirminghamUK Solidarity Tour

4WardEver UK supported and assisted in organising a series of national UK events to demonstrate unity and solidarity of campaigns fighting against the injustice of police custody deaths in Britain and the United States.

Defend the Right to Protest supported by 4WardEver UK, BirminghamStrong Justice 4 All, BEMA, Campaign 4 Justice for Kingsley Burrell; with the generous support of The Drum Arts Centre presented ‘From Ferguson to Birmingham’ on 28 January 2015.

The Reverend Osagyefo Sekou – centrally involved in protests in Ferguson, Missouri, to demand justice for Michael Brown – was scheduled to visit the UK for the solidarity tour. Due to sudden illness fellow campaigner Patrisse Cullors, co founder of the group Black Lives Matter, stood in on his behalf.

Patrisse spoke alongside local activists and family members Tippa Naphtali, Kedisha Brown-Burrell, Maxie Hayles, Rev Bryan Scott, Jan Butler, The Julian Webster family and others who have suffered injustice at the hands of the state and are fighting to end the culture of impunity that protects the police.

#BlackLivesMatter campaigner ‘disturbed by UK police deaths’

The world would not have woken up to what is happening to black families in America if the people of Ferguson had “just gone back home” after unarmed teenager Michael Brown was shot by a police officer, said a leading US black civil rights campaigner.

Patrisse Cullors, co founder of the group Black Lives Matter, was speaking in Birmingham on a UK-wide Ferguson Solidarity Tour where she stressed that “change will not happen until people force it to happen”.

She told of how the now well-publicised protests in Ferguson, Missouri, began with just a small number, but grew to the extent where people were able to shut down Walmart supermarkets and police departments to make the world sit up and take notice.
