On the last Saturday of October, every year for the last nine years, there has been a gathering in London of the friends and family of those who have been killed while in the custody of the state.

The body of Christopher Alder, a former soldier who died in police custody in 1998, has been found in a mortuary where it had been thought the body of Grace Kamara had been lying. Dr John Troyer, Deputy Director of the Centre for Death and Society at the University of Bath, describes his shock at hearing about the case.

David Oluwale
On 4th May 1969, the body of David Oluwale was pulled from the River Aire in Leeds. Two years later two police officers were prosecuted for involvement in his death.
