Dödsstraff >

The death penalty violates the right to life. It is the ultimate cruel, inhuman and degrading punishment. It has no place in a modern criminal justice system. The question as to whether or not it is morally acceptable for the state to execute people, and if so under what circumstances, has been debated for centuries.

These are key historical and community events that have been reported to us, or that have been held by 4WardEver, The Mikey Powell Campaign for Justice, or in conjunction with third parties. In May 2010 Families and campaigners gathered in Leicester, UK to pay tribute to those that had died in custody.

FN: Familjer & Vänner Kampanj är en koalition av familjer och vänner av dem som har dött i förvar hos polisen, fängelser och säkra psykiatriska sjukhus. I 2006 över 200 personer dök upp för att minnas och kräva rättvisa för dem som har dödats eller misshandlats och missbrukas i polisens förvar, i fängelser och mentalsjukhus hälsa.

Mellan 1969 och 1999 over one thousand people died in police custody in the UK alone, inte räkna dödsfall i fängelse och psykiatriska institutioner. Ingen har någonsin blivit dömd för något av dessa dödsfall. Over the last 30+ years a disproportionate number of these deaths were African-Caribbean men. Ett liknande mönster är också uppenbara i världen.

The use of restraint on children and young people is on the rise in secure training centres, siffror i 2009-2010 avslöjade. Ungdomar Rättvisa styrelsen (YJB) statistik, placeras i underhuset bibliotek, visar att för de tre månaderna mellan april och juni 2009 återhållsamhet användes 535 gånger i Englands fyra säkra utbildningscenter. Ett liknande mönster är också uppenbara i världen.
