The tragic death of Aiyana Jones, a 7-year-old African-American fatally shot by a Detroit police officer, Joseph Weekley, in 2010, drew media attention to police brutality especially in black neighborhoods.
A handful of protesters gathered today, May 21, at the Coleman A. Young Municipal Center in Downtown Detroit to call for justice for Aiyana and other children and parents, who have died at the hands of police officers. Thanks to Black Matters for organizing the event.
During the event, protesters held cardboards and wore shirts with messages such as “RIP Baby Aiyana”, “Fight fire with fire: Stop Killing us — Black Lives Matter”.
