Family of man shot dead by Police ‘in limbo’ več kot preiskavo

The family of a man shot in a car by a police firearms officer claim they are being kept in the dark over the continuing investigation into his death.

Anthony Grainger, 36, died from a single shot fired from a sub-machine gun while he sat in the front seat of an Audi in a car park in the village of Culcheth, Warrington, on March 3.

Armed officers had swooped on the car in a ‘pre-planned’ operation in March. Two men were arrested at the scene of the shooting with a third arrested the following day.

Mr Grainger, a dad-of-two originally from Salford but living in Bolton, was pronounced dead at the scene. Police had already shot out the car’s tyres and deployed CS gas.

Subsequent checks found no weapon in the vehicle. It is believed that police had ordered three men in the car to raise their hands and the shot was fired when Mr Grainger failed to do so.

The officer who pulled the trigger has been interviewed under caution by police watchdog the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC).
