Death threats have been made to the mother of computer hacker Gary McKinnon by US racist extremists. A series of emails, signed by someone called Jerry, have been sent to Janis Sharp, the mother of the 43-year-old from Palmers Green who is wanted in the US to face terrorism charges.
Mr McKinnon, who is autistic, is fighting extradition to the US after he hacked into 97 US military computers in 2001 and 2002. He faces 60 years in a US jail if convicted.
Mrs Sharp began receiving the emails two months ago which have now also been sent to journalists working for The Daily Telegraph and The Guardian and to MP Keith Vaz. Gary’s stepfather, Wilson Sharp, told the Advertiser: “The death threats have been aimed at anybody who has helped Gary. They are believed to be from an American. He referred us to a blog, which is racist against anyone who isn’t a white American and it is very hateful towards Gary.
“He used the name of Liberty director Shami Chakrabarti as a ruse to get Janis to read the emails and he has also threatened to have British people in New York killed.
“Shami took it to the police and so did someone at The Guardian. In one of the messages he said he had a call from the police so he had to stop. Since then, we haven’t had any more. It hasn’t stopped us but Janis was concerned when she was campaigning outside the US Embassy, that there is some nutter out there.”
A Metropolitan Police spokeswoman said: “A number of malicious emails were sent to representatives from various media organisations as well as other agencies and detectives are liaising with US law enforcement agencies to investigate the matter.”
Mr McKinnon is currently waiting for a High Court judge to decide whether the Home Secretary Alan Johnson was acting lawfully when he failed to block the computer hacker’s extradition.

I would not trust Liberty, I question their integrity.
I went through years of absolute hell in the secret family courts, being taken to court by a freemason rapist, and I was treated in an appalling way at Stafford Court, even at one point they tried to force me in a room for two hours to sign documents against my will, and I was screaming and crying for the last half hour, “let me out” and begging them to let me go but they wouldn’t. That’s illegal, but Liberty were not interested in helping me or any of the other victims of the secret family courts either, so I think they are rubbish.
I hope Gary McKinnon and his mum are ok. It’s terrible how they are being treated. I wrote to the government to ask if they would try him in the UK, and I had a 5 page letter back from Lord West of Spithead, but they are not at all sympathetic to autistic people, they either don’t understand or else they don’t want to understand.
